Speedflying & Speedriding Landings in Chamonix
The main landing zones in the valley. Some are subject to special rules, such as the Le Savoy field.
A large open area at the Bois du Bouchet, in Chamonix, the official landing to be used as first choice for several spots in the valley. A shared zone with many other pilots: beginners, tandems, and people ground handling. Speedflyers must give priority to other pilots and follow the landing pattern in place.
- Le Savoy⚠️ Special rules
Le Savoy field, in Chamonix, is the landing zone close to the Planpraz gondola, mainly used by tandem pilots for fast turnarounds. Its use by small-surface wings (speed, mini-wing, parakite) is conditional on strict compliance with the cohabitation charter and on wearing the SPEED CHX sticker on the helmet.
- Le Tour⚠️ Special rules
Landing at the foot of the Balme ski area, in the village of Le Tour, at the head of the valley. In summer, landing in the fields is forbidden: local farmers do not allow landings on their land.
A high-altitude landing on the Plan de l'Aiguille plateau, used mainly in winter when the Bois du Bouchet is not usable.
- Les Praz⚠️ Special rules
Landing on the Les Praz-de-Chamonix golf course, at the foot of the Flégère ski area. Only usable in winter, when the golf course is snow-covered: no snow, no landing. A couloir lies close to the parking area, do not fly over it.
A landing on the Mer de Glace glacier, on glaciated terrain. Keep good margins around the flatter sections, which are scattered with crevasses.
- Vallorcine⚠️ Special rules
A landing on the Vallorcine side, right next to a cross-country ski track. Landing on the cross-country track is forbidden.
A landing at La Vormaine, in the Le Tour sector.
